Laurie loved quiltmaking and she taught quilting for decades in the Redding area at many quilt shops and for the quilt guild. Her pattern business, Quilt 'N, featured her own quilt patterns. Her favorite styles were Baltimore Album applique and wool applique.

She belonged to several small groups. The Tuesday Night Threaders took turns meeting in each others' houses. The Sunday Sew group met at her house for many years, enjoying the good company, great food and fun quiltmaking. Laurie organized many quilting events, including a retreat for a Japanese quilting group who visited Redding, Mt. Shasta and McCloud in 2004. She organized four quilting retreats for friends. She was a great storyteller and did bed turnings with her quilts for quilt shows and guilds.

She is a past president of the Quilter's Sew-Ciety of Redding and worked on many of their quilt shows. She was Opportunity Quilt Chair for several quilts, including a blue and white Dear Jane in 2000 and A Tribute to Rose Marie (deceased guild member) in 2004.
