Rose Marie had Scarlet Fever as a child, which damaged her heart. She would later have several valve replacement surgeries, ending with a metal valve as her last replacement in the mid 90s. She married twice, having three children and many grandchildren. She was a professional dressmaker, specializing in swimwear.

When she decided to try quilting, she jumped in with both feet. She took classes through the Quilter's Sew-Ciety of Redding, at local quilt shops and went to quilt conventions, including Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara, CA and Quilter's Heritage Celebration in Lancaster, PA.
