Jane Przybysz earned a doctorate in performance studies from New York University. Since 1998, she has served as executive director of the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles. She previously worked as curator of research and folklife at McKissick Museum, University of South Carolina. Her research and writing seek to discover the ways women, past and present, use textiles to rehearse, affirm, and contest diverse cultural, gender, sexual, and social identities. Przybysz published "Competing Cultural Values at the Great American Quilt Festival" in Uncoverings 1987 and "The Body En(w)raptured: Contemporary Quilted Garments" in Uncoverings 1989. A member of the advisory board for www.artshiftsanjose. com, an online art journal, she frequently reviews exhibitions of contemporary fiber art.
