Latest News and Chatter From Our Big Quilt Club

Edith B. Crumb

Yesterday was another - and bigger than ever - Quilt Club Corner meeting, but before I tell you about that let me tell about a quilt show which is to be held next Tuesday, Nov. 24.

The members of the women's organization of the Leitch Memorial Presbyterian Church are planning to hold a display of quilts which will open at 1:30 p. m. and remain until late in the evening. The church is located on Colonial st., east of Denmark st.

Mrs. David N. Furr has written us a letter about it and we wouldn't miss it for anything.

A Tatted Blouse
As for our own gathering yesterday - lots happened. First of all, Mrs. Margaret Hammer, 2703 Collingwood ave., came for the first time and she certainly showed us a tatted blouse that we marvelled at. She started it about two and a half months ago and expected to finish it before the end of the week.

Mrs. Charles Voelker came in and brought four guests from Jackson. They were Mrs. Sherman O'Neill, Mrs. Walter Saddler, Mrs. Arden Schwartz and Mrs. Auburn Hutchinson, the last two being brides.

And speaking of brides, Mrs. William Roushkoulp brought her new daughter-in-law, Mrs. Edna Roseup. Mrs. Edna was married last Tuesday. Please accept our best wishes for your happiness, Mrs. Roseup.

Four More Mittens
Mrs. Anna Durward brought in her fifth pair of mittens which she has made for the Goodfellows.

Mrs. Bertha Simpson brought an heirloom for us to see. It was the marriage license of her grandmother and grandfather which was issued in 1812. This is about the last Friday that Mrs. Simpson will be with us for a while for she is either going to Florida or California in a travel car. If she goes to California, she is going to call on our Long Beach member.

Then there was Mrs. John Wright, who is also going south in a travel car. In fact there are two travel cars full of those who are going to winter in the south.

Visitor From Ionia
Mrs. Charles Sorenson brought her daughter, Mrs. Esther Herring, who is visiting her this week from Ionia.

Mrs. Opal Clark is still knitting away at that orange sweater with the green stripes that she has promised her husband for Christmas. He thought she was going along a little too slowly so he be her $100 she wouldn't get it finished by Christmas and now she is getting it done so quickly that he is pretty worried.

Another April Quilters
We have another April quilt-maker. It is Mrs. Percy Colewood. Imagine the many quips that name occasioned when you learn that her husband used to be in the ice business. Mrs. Colewood lives at 18468 Dalby ave. She heard us say over the radio that we didn't think any one who was born in April made quilts so she is going to prove that we are wrong. And we are.

This is the first week that May Mancuse has not been present, but she called in to tell us that a hard cold kept her home. She has almost finished another Goodfellows' sweater.

Quilt For California
Another new member, Mrs. Frances Dale, 6187 Toledo ave., brought in her quilt blocks from the Mother Goose pattern, which she is making for her little granddaughter Joanne Leach, 1218 Tremaine ave., Los Angeles. Miss Joanne is nine months old - and I just know she will like the way her grandmother has made all of the blocks in that quilt.
