While still in high school, Hallie E. Bond got caught up in the quiltmaking revival of the 1970s and maintained the interest throughout her professional training. She earned a B.A. in history at the University of Colorado, an M.A. at the University of York (U.K.) in Medieval Studies, and an M.A. in American History with a Certificate in Museum Studies from the University of Delaware, where she attended as a Hagley Fellow. She was on the staff at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, NY from 1983 until 2012, first as Education Director and then as Curator. She is the author of numerous historical articles for both scholarly and popular journals on topics ranging from historic watercraft to the history of dogs in the Adirondacks. She is the author of Boats and Boating in the Adirondacks (Adirondack Museum and Syracuse University Press, 1995), and the co-author of a book on Adirondack Food and Foodways, to be published by Gibbs Smith in 2014. Her particular interest is rural domestic history, and she undertook this study of Adirondack quilts as curator of the quilt exhibit at the Adirondack Museum.

​When AQSG added Uncoverings articles to the Quilt Index, they omitted all the illustrations, for lack of permissions. Although the articles found in the QI (1980-2010, 2012-2016) lack illustrations, they link to quilts, essays, special collections, and documentation projects across the Quilt Index, introducing them to a wider audience. The permission issues have since been resolved and in 2024, AQSG completed adding all the Uncoverings volumes from 1980-2023 to the Digital Commons@University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
