Gloria Scott, a Black Arkansan, quiltmaker was originally from Hot Springs but moved to the Greater Kansas City, Missouri area.
Gloria Scott, a Black Arkansan, quiltmaker was originally from Hot Springs. Because of her husband’s job transfer, she moved to the Greater Kansas City, Missouri, area in the early 1980’s. She joined the main quilt guild in Kansas City and a smaller offshoot quilt group. Gloria Scott began to make miniature quilts at this time. She said by making miniatures she might be able to make all the patterns she wanted to make, whereas if she restricted herself to full-sized pieces, she would never be able to make that many quilts. All of Ms. Scott’s quilts were handmade, some using vintage fabrics she salvaged from old quilt blocks. All the miniature quilts by Gloria Scott were made in 1984-1985.
