I was born and raised in Muskegon Heights, a small town on the Western side of Michigan. My parents taught me to believe in hard work and perseverance with regards to achieving goals in life. These values helped me throughout my life, and especially helped develop my character.

My early remembrance of sewing came from my mother. She taught me basic sewing skills. I later took sewing classes in junior high school.

My grandmother made me a hand stitched quilt for my tenth birthday. I was in awe of my gift and took very good care of it. The quilt my grandmother gave me inspired me to want to learn quilting.

My inspiration was ignited after attending a meeting with the Great Lakes African American Quilters’ Network. I was most inspired by the fashion show displaying very beautiful works of art, using fabric.

I am a beginning quilter. I took classes under the instruction of April Shipp. This is my first finished quilt. I am very motivated to continue quilting and learn different techniques.
