04-065; Grace, Cecil, Margett and Chester
1910-1919
Janet E. Finley Collection of Quilt History Photographs
Real Photo Postcard (RPPC) c. 1910-1918
Photographer: Unknown
Size: 3.5" x 5.5"
Four siblings pose outdoors for their photograph in what appears to be a rural setting. Written on the postcard's verso are the children's names: Grace, Cecil, Margett and Chester (not necessarily left to right). The quilt draped on the chair is probably the back side of mother's quilt. The back side reveals an excellent example of fan quilting, also known as elbow quilting.
-- With permission of the publisher, excerpted from Janet E. Finley, Quilts in EveryDay Life 1855-1955 (Schiffer Publishing, 2012).
