Mother Goose Quilt Series-Pattern No. 9
Mary, Quite Contrary

Well, here is our old friend Mary seeing to it that her garden gets plenty of water. We are so glad to have her with us, for a quilt without her would not be a success.

You may work this out in an etching stitch in red, blue, green or any plain color; or you may make the whole block in applique.

Mary may have a blue and white checked dress and sunbonnet with white apron, lace panteletes, black shoes and white stockings, while the sprinkler may be silvery gray. Her hair may be yellow.

This is also attractive in a combination of applique and solid embroidery. The apron ruffle and panteletes may be embroidered and this may also be used for her shoe laces and the flowers. Of course, the water has to be embroidered even though the rest of the block is appliqued.

See general direction leaflet, giving yardages and measurements of blocks, joining strips and borders of quilt.
