Quilters Enjoy Meeting in Spite of Hot Weather
By Edith B. Crumb
Quilt Club Corner Editor, The Detroit News

Didn't I tell you that every Friday members bring quilts to the Quilt Club meeting? Yesterday Mrs. William E. King, of 12803 Lauder avenue, brought a finished quilt which is the fourth she has made from the same design.

The quilters had a very good time in the air-cooled Home Institute and forgot all about the hot weather.

Although she has 10 grand-children, Mrs. King says she won't make that many quilts - at least not from this pattern.

The quilt has a white background and the designs are all in gay colors. The edge is finished in folded points.

The oval in the center is quilted in small squares, the four corner sections having diagonal quilting; and Mrs. King did every stitch of this quilt, herself, and by hand too.

The quilt top which was exhibited belonged to Mrs. N. Miller, 1828 Division street. Mrs. Miller is a friend and neighbor of May Mancuse and she let May bring the quilt top down for us to see. It is made from the Pine Tree pattern in rose and white. A friend of Mrs. Miller's who lives in California made the top and sent it as a gift to her.

Mrs. Jane Howie came to the meeting yesterday after an absence of several weeks. She brought her niece, Betty Beery from Springfield, O.

Mrs. Mary Bell sent a message to the Quilt Club Corner by her daughter, Mrs. Agnes Colewood (14858 Turner avenue). She wishes to thank all who were so kind about sending her anniversary and birthday cards.

Mrs. May Ryan brought her mother-in-law, Mrs. William Ryan, 971 Barton street, E. Hamilton, Ont. They stayed all the afternoon and did a lot of chatting even if they did not accomplish much in the way of knitting or sewing.

Mrs. Lee Richards, 15757 Dolphin avenue, whom many of you know by reading her letters to the Corner, came to a meeting for the first time. We wish she could come every week.

And you can't imagine how surprised every one was to see Mrs. Opal Clark trip in with (guess what) - that orange sweater. She promised to finish it for Christmas but it must have been for the 1937 (or '38) holiday season. Anyway, she is getting along very well with it and if she comes every week now, she will soon have it finished.

Mrs. Emily Buchanan, 3984 Beniteau avenue, came to the meeting for the first time, and joined the Corner. She had heard what fun we had so came right down and sewed on her Dresden Plate.
