Sample Pieces of Caden's Quilt

1933
Waldvogel Ephemera Collection; Waldvogel Archival Collection
Kentucky, United States
Sample pieces show how the grand prize winning quilt was constructed. Pieced star blocks were made with a traditional eight-point design. The padded quilting design of a fern frond is shown on both the top side and reverse side. These pieces were saved by Mattie Black, one of the women paid to make the quilt. In 1993, the pieces were owned by folk art collector Miriam Tuska of Lexington, KY. At her death, the pieces were sold. Their whereabouts are not known.
