Features or notes about the quilt's appearance, materials, or construction:

Contemporary Chinese patchwork quilt, two sided. One side is made from 48 blocks, 5 3/4" square, separated by 1/2" white sashing. Each block features the appliqued image of an animal (horse, dog, snake, frog, squirrel), embellished with fan-shaped embroidery. THere are three large blocks (11 3/4" square) with round medallions, each containing an appliqued frog whose mouth opens, and a butterfly, and another animal: from top to bottom:bird, panda, snake). Each round medallion is embellished with a trim of folded points around the perimeter. The other side of the quilt features 60 string-style blocks, roughly 6" square, made from a solid fabrics, cotton and synthetic, in a variety of of bright colors. In the center of each block is a three-dimensional insect or amphibian, attached, and surrounded by fan-shaped embroidery. The quilt has a 3 3/4" solid blue cotton border on both sides. The medallions are backed with a stiff crinkly plastic. Not quilted or tied.

Note from donor: Collected in Badaling District near Beijing. I think they were probably made 1995 or later. They were given to me by Christine Turner of DuPont, Washington, who collected them over many years.
