Artist statement about work:
One of the original forty-four African American quilts made for the forty-fourth President of the United States. Sheridan's quilt depicts the world's reaction to Barack Obama's 2008 election as President. As a fabric montage of emotion, the quilt pays tribute to Obama's heritage, his commitment to a sustainable White House, a green earth, and the celebration of hope. The artistic composition includes familial imagery drawn from the upbringing that shaped his character. Diverse expressions of tears, dance, laughter, awe, and technology reflect the many ways in which this historic moment changed our global society forever.
