In 1802 Mary Tayloe Lloyd, of Wye House in Talbot County, on Maryland's Eastern Shore, married the young lawyer Francis Scott Key of Frederick County, Maryland, who wrote "The Star Spangled Banner". By 1802 they were living in Georgetown on Falls Street. Some years later she pieced this counterpane but left it unquilted. See DAR 2010.47 for another quilt from the same family.
