Was a gift from her great-grandmother when the owner visited her in Arkansas. No other member of the family in Detroit even knew she sewed, even though she kept a treadle in her home. She might have sewn at night. When Roots came out she refused to watch it - she did not want to talk about times of slavery. Don't know if her mother was enslaved.
