Essay:

SAS (Sally Ann Sharp, formerly Porter) (1822-1879) Patchwork Quilt. The words written neatly onto this quilt give us insight into its original owners. It was sewn by Sally Ann Sharp (formerly Porter) and given to Mary Rose Law. Mary Rose Bixby married Homer L. Law, Sally Ann’s nephew, in 1874; perhaps this quilt was a wedding gift to the young couple. Sally Ann and Mary seem to have developed a strong friendship, since Mary was named executor of Sally Ann’s will and Mary eventually named her only daughter Sally Porter Law.
