Pins include sewing machine, a heart with a name on it, a doctor’s bag and stethoscope, a gold pin, a wooden (instrument) pin, a red, white, and blue square pin, a small white square pin (with something on?), a cowboy hat pin, a Mardi Gras mask with purple, yellow, and green ribbon pin, a pink cancer pin, a red apple pin, a gold circle with rainbow thread tied around it pin, a gold ribbon with a purple circle dangling pin, a gold (?) pin, a windmill with Lubbock at the bottom pin, and a gold elephant pin.
Features or notes about the quilt's appearance, materials, or construction:
Blue self-portrait quilt. The border is a blue, purple, green, and orange watercolor print. At the corner and on the right side, there is a portrait of the maker, Linda Fisher. On the quilt, she has short brown hair, green eyes with glasses frames, and metal hearts sewn on as earrings. She's wearing a metal heart as a pendant on a necklace and a green striped long sleeve with a multicolored checkered vest. Pinned on the vest with an Ogallala pin is a red OQS volunteer ribbon. The background is tie-dye squares, some with words sewn onto them. The words written: time on the middle top, yoga on the top right middle, home on the fourth row left, travel on the fourth-row middle left, “cabi-” on the fourth-row middle, music on the fifth row left, and family on the bottom left corner. (Try to see the other words later.) Near the top left corner to top of the fourth row, there is organza material pinned onto the quilt with various pins. Linda Fisher was a prolific quilter beginning with her first quilt as an adult beginning in 1994 and continuing through the present (2019). She taught many people in West Texas to quilt. She was a member of the Lubbock day quilt guild (The South Plains Quilt Guild) and the Caprock Art Quilters. She loved to take old blocks and finish quilts and to put her own artistic twist on traditional quilt patterns.
