When I square up a large quilt, I often use a carpenter's square. My husband recently bought me a small hammer to have in my studio, and I use a 12 foot tape measure when I am cutting large amounts of fabric. Perhaps I am the tool man holding pins in my mouth. Does a carpenter hold nails in his mouth? Hands that cover the piece as a roof expresses the care and protection that each human should have to our common house. This is what we wanted to express. When we finished working on surface, to draw a picture, we tried to quilt the surface by machine.
