After her marriage, she and Frederic lived with his parents in St. Patrice along the Beaurivage river where they had a sawmill. Diana found it hard to live with her in-laws. The couple wanted to have their own home but land in Quebec was becoming difficult to acquire. In 1918, after a flood on the Beaurivage river carried the sawmill away, Frederic decided to head west to Alberta. He moved his family of six and all his belongings including the quilt to Picardville, Alberta.
