Dorothy Osler earned a B.Sc. in geology from the University of Newcastle on Tyne and began work in museum curatorship. For twenty-five years she has combined lecturing, teaching, and writing about quilting with work as a freelance editor. Her research focuses on British quiltmaking history and she has published four quilting books including Traditional British Quilts (1994). She served on the British Quilters' Guild Executive Committee as the first Heritage Officer from 1983 to 1989.
