Story about this quilt:
After attending several anime conventions, Whitney created a cat girl character. She purchased the furry cat ears and the outfit, doing her own makeup and buying a wig. Everyone in the group that went to SacAnime in January 2013 had a cat girl cosplay to wear for day 3 of the event.
Whit sketched a cat girl design and then hand back stitched it on muslin. She did three versions of the cat girl, one with black embroidery floss, one with various colors of embroidery floss and one with crayon coloring as well as the hand embroidery. She pieced the trimmed down blocks together, sandwiched it with a piece of batting and the same fabric as the border was used for the backing. Each block was outline quilted and the rest safety pinned.
She didn't get around to doing the rest of the quilting to finish this project and the Cat Girl UFO was stored for many years as Whit moved around. In September of 2022, Whit discovered that the basement where the UFO was stored in a box, had flooded. It had rotted and was salvageable, so Whit had to throw it away. Lucky for her, Aunt Scarlett had photographed this UFO so it could be documented.
