Horoscope Quilt - Leaflet No. 11
Leo
July 24 to Aug 23

By Edith B. Crumb

It may seem odd that the fifth zodiac sign, which is shown on this week's leaflet, does not represent the fifth month of May. But, as has been explained in one of the first leaflets, the idea is taken from an old almanac. This showed a human figure with dotted lines leading from various parts of the figure to the various zodiac signs.

Naturally the start is made at the head and since that sign is Aries which the ancients believed ruled the sky in the month - as we now know it - of April, the beginning is made there. That makes April come first; May, second; June, third; July fourth and August, fifth.

And since the calendar had not been invented back in the time of the nomads they reckoned the beginning of things with the first signs of life and growth. And that came in April, so naturally their year or cycle began then. Next week there will be an explanation of the way in which the ancients took the lion for the cymbol of this month.

No description of the work is necessary as you now have four blocks made and this is done in the same manner; and in addition to your quilt-making, if you have time, do drop a little note to the Quilt Club Corner. They are all so interesting and the readers are asking for more and more so do add your experiences and hints for better quilt-making.

New fashions, accessories, table decorations, part menus and numerous other items of interest to women are discussed every Sunday on the Women's Pages of The Detroit News - The Home Newspaper.
