In the January 1933 issue of Good Housekeeping Magazine, Anne Orr announced that she would be the judge for the upcoming Sears National Quilt Contest. Besides writing for the magazine, Anne Orr designed quilts, sold patterns and even kits from her studio in Nashville, Tennessee. Several contestants made quilts in Anne Orr designs, including Mrs. Joe Wade who made an Iris quilt in yellow and green and Inez Ward who made a Lincoln Quilt in pink and white, both of which appear in this article. Both women won regional prizes for their quilts, but neither won the top prize.
