An essay from Quilt History Tidbits -- Old & Newly Discovered
Fannie Smith Tobey
Fannie Smith Tobey was reportedly the byline with a weekly, 3-column, self-contained quilt pattern feature distributed ca. 1929-1934 through Distinctive Newspaper Features, Hamilton, Ohio, owned by her husband, Walter Lawrence Tobey (1870-1938). Hamilton is in southwest Ohio north of Cincinnati.

The annual Syndicate Directory supplement published by Editor & Publisher, August 30, 1930, identified this feature as a "Nursery Quilt Pattern" but examples are not known.

Fannie Douglas Smith and Walter Tobey were married December 19, 1894. She was the society editor for her husband's newspaper, the Hamilton Republican, for many years. Mrs. Tobey died in November 1947 in Cincinnati.
