Jackie Northrup

Jackie was exposed early in life to sewing. Her grandmother made many cross-stitch blocks. Her Grandmother and Great-Grandmother were quilters. Jackie took a Beginning Quilting class from Judy Bowers in Anoka and made a four-block sampler in the early 1980’s. Hand quilting was very important in the beginning of this quilt revival and Jackie excelled at this. She has followed the trends and now does some machine quilting in order to get her quilt tops finished. She has over 200 finished pieces of work. A very special quilt in her collection is a wall hanging she made using Baltimore style designs and 3-D effects for her father-in-law shortly before he died. Jackie was active in MN Quilters and was president in 1997-1998. After her husband’s retirement she moved five miles north of Cambridge. Jackie loves working with Civil War reproduction fabrics and now does more piecing than applique. She enjoys picking out the fabrics for each project and does not feel “right” if she does not do some sewing each day. To her the finishing touches such as binding are very important. Jackie feels quilting brings her out of her shell as she has something to discuss with others interested in the craft. You can always talk about what the “next” project is.
