Tina Hollerman

Tina Hollerman I became interested in quilting as I am an avid Laura Ingalls Wilder fan and I think her books influenced me. Then, when I was twelve years old, my mother bought a quilt top at an antique store. My grandmother put it together and they put it in a frame from Sears. I quilted on it every day that that whole summer and really enjoyed it. Later I went on to get a degree in Clothing and Textiles from Oregon State University. My roommate in college was making a quilt for her boyfriend for Christmas. I watched her do it and realized that I could make one too. I started making more quilts in 1979 by watching Georgia Bonesteel’s TV show, and I have quilted ever since. I started-out loving traditional patchwork. Gradually over time I’ve shifted to traditional designs done in batiks. I love every part of quilting, but choosing the fabric is my favorite part. I love it when the piecing makes a secondary design show up. I try to do that in every quilt I make. This quilt that I’m pictured with is my favorite of all the quilts I’ve ever made. I just love the way the fabrics interact with each other. I would like to make more quilts with these colors and maybe add white to see how they look with it. I worked at Marshall Field as an assistant buyer of men’s pajamas. I chose the designs and fabrics for the pajamas. After that I decided to stay home with my children. While I enjoyed that very much I missed my career. Quilting connects me to fabric and design again. It keeps me connected to that part of my personality and makes me feel complete. Quilting has had a huge impact on my life.
