Quilter Designs Basket Block
Here is Mrs. Woods with the lovely basket quilt which she designed and made in gold, blue, pink and yellow on an ivory background.
This Design Is Appliqued on Deep, Ivory Background

By Edith B. Crumb

Mrs. Jennie Wood, 17059 Henry street, Melvindale, has made quilts for years. In fact during the last five years she has made 15 quilts. One of her favorites is this in the basket pattern which she designed.

The background is just off-white, the baskets are bright orange (to represent gold), and the flowers are blue, pink and yellow, the leaves being green.

The baskets are outlined in a running stitch in black and the flowers are finished in a blanke stitch in black.

On the sides of the quilt the baskets are arranged to stand upright instead of sideways.

Mrs. Wood started this quilt (which she has bound and is to use for a spread without having it quilted), just after last Christmas and finished it in October. Of course, she only worked on it during her spare time.

All shades of this quilt are finished with points and in each point is a flower like those in the basket instead of having all flowers the same color, some are pink, some blue and others are yellow. The binding is orange to match the baskets.

Mrs. Wood went to the Detroit News Quilt Show last year and we hope that she will come to the next one and send in all 15 of those quilts which she has made.

Big Birthday Month
Mrs. Lettie McIntyre, 21015 So. Farmington, Michigan says that the members of the Du More Club of Farmington are planning a family get-together this Saturday as there are five birthdays in their group this month as well as the wedding anniversary of their president.

Mrs. Gertrude Young, 2423 Cabot avenue, Detroit, is the president and her birthday is November 23. It should have been included n the list last Saturday; but we hope that she has just as happy a day as if it had been. It is right down good and clear now in the birthday book and all ready to bob up in time next year - for sure.
