Pat L. Nickols, originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has long called southern California home. After attending college at UCLA and raising a family, she discovered the world of quilts. As an independent scholar, Pat has logged many miles seeking information on scrap quilts and vintage fabric. She has published three other articles in Uncoverings on "String Quilts" (1982), on "The Use of Cotton Sacks in Quiltmaking" (1988) and on "Mary A. McElwain Quilter and Quilt Businesswoman" (1991).
