To My Patrons
"Nothing lovelier can be found in woman, than to study household good." - Milton
Owing to the unprecedented success of my descriptive catalogue "Home Beautiful," and cheered by the assureance that it has filled many a home with that spirit which makes "a thing of beauty a joy forever," I had concluded to issue this present edition.
In presenting this enlarged, illustrated catalogue of designs to my customers, I desire to say, in justice to myself, that it would have been issued sooner; but as the catalogue which I sent out for the seasons 1884-5 contained such full and explicit descriptions of many of my stamping or perforated patterns, I did not deam it necessary, and, therefore, I delayed publishing the bulk of my designs until now, in order to exhibit to those who are interested in the art needlework and embroidery business the largest number and greatest variety of stamping patterns to be found on this or the other side of the ocean. I desire to call particular attention to the rare artistic merit and wide range of subjects illustrated in this book of designs; all taste have been provided for in this selection, as you will perceive by looking over the pages. Classic, aesthetic, floral, comic and simple rustic ideas are all given expression in these patterns. The most exacting and fastidious lady cannot faily to find in this vasy array of designs, all that will be needed for the adornment of her home and every department therein. No time nor money has been spared in securing for your use the very best work of skilled and talented artists, trained in the regulary schools of design in this and other cities. The result is before you; and if you will consider the higher education which it requires to make an artist capable of producing even one class of designs, and then note the wondrous variety of these patterns, you will admit that to understand their beauty and significance demands education and culture of no mean order. Ecclesiastical art is generally considered a separate branch, requiring the life-work of one artist; the same is true of figure, flower, landscape and comic - each is a separate branch of study.

Please bear in mind that large as this catalogue list is, it does not by any means cover my entire stock; for instance, we have several hundred different designs of each of those beautiful flowers so dear to the poet and the artist, - the wild rose, the daisy, the forget-me-not, the pansy, and other floral favorites. It is indeed difficult to convey, in these reduced patterns, the singular effectiveness and natural charm of the original, for it takes the full-sized enlarged pattern to display all of their fineness of detail.

As I carry all of these serveral thousand designs in stock, systematically arranged and numbered same as in catalogue, customes will please be very careful in ordering to give correct numbers, pae, and price of pattern: for instance - Page 81. Pattern No. 7809. 40c. This will help to fill your order in case a mistake should have occurred while going through the printer's hands.

Allow seven cents for postage on one dollar's worth. Initials are sold singly to suit my customers; price of single letter under 10 inch, 10c; over 10 inch, 15c.

All of our patterns are made of the best white bond or parchment paper manufactured by Crane & Co. The perforations are unexcelled.
