Quilt Shows to Be Held by Members of Two Clubs

By Edith B. Crumb

The officers of the Sunshine Club will sponsor a bridge party and quilt show combined on Wednesday, Nov. 18, to be held at the Michigan Mutual Liability building, 152 Madison ave.

This will be open in the afternoon and continue through the evening.

Members of the club and thier friends are invited to enter quilts and prizes will be given to owners of the best quilts in the different classes, including those which are antique.

The Sunshine Club is a charitable organization and the proceeds from this show and card party will be put to good use.

Lincoln Park Show
The members of the Unique Circle of the First Methodist Church in Lincoln Park will hold a quilt show on Thursday, Nov. 19, opening at 1 p. m.

Those who attended last year's show will remember that it was such a success that Mrs. Vera M. Meeks, chairman, has promised as even bigger and better show this year.

Henderson Quilt Show
When the members of the Ladies Bible Class of Henderson Memorial Church (Lilac at Puritan) planned the quilt show which took place last Tuesday they didn't realize that it would be such a success it would be voted an annual affair.

But that is just what happened. The walls were lined with quilts and the antiques, including beautiful old hand wrought silver from the Netherlands.

Mrs. Clarence Wright won the prize in the quilt exhibit and Mrs. Victor Weston in the antique section, for her miniature music box of hand engraved silver.

A surprise kitchen shower was added to the afternoon's activities. This was given for Mrs. Roy Heavenridge who is moving to Garden City. We feel sure that Mrs. Heavenridge has not really said good-bye for she has too many tried and true friends in her Henderson Church congregation not to pay many visits to them.

Pontiac M. E. Church
The gymnasium of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Pontiac was selecte3d as the place for a quilt show given last Thursday by the members of the Indian Village Circle of that church. It is a good thing they selected a large room for they had over 50 quilts in the exhibit.

The chairman of the show, Mrs. W. S. Newman, was assisted by Mrs. E. W. Brown, Mrs. E. D. Firth and Mrs. T. E. Stalter; while Mrs. Leona McCloud, home demonstration agent of Oakland County was the judge.

The prizes were awarded as follows: For finished pieced quilts: first, Mrs. George Hamilton; second, Mrs. Gladys E. Mortensen; third, Mrs. Clarence Conlan.

Finished appliqued quilts; first, Mrs. William Dawson; second, (clipping cut-off)

Miss Crumb holds a consultation period each Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock for discussion of home decoration problems, and meets The News Quilt Club each Friday afternoon, from 1 to 4 p. m. Both meetings are in the new WWJ studio building of The Detroit News. No admission tickets are necessary.
