Crowd Was A Happy One at Yesterday's Meeting

Yesterday we had four quilts to see at the Quilt Club meeting. The first was brought by Mrs. B. R. Moore, 209 W. Bennett avenue, Ferndale and it is shown in the accompanying illustration.

This quilt was made by the members of Mrs. Moore's Bible class which she has taught for 10 years in the Ferndale Methodist Church. There are 25 members in this class and each did her share toward suppling the blocks for this quilt, which is made from the Detroit News Rose Medallion pattern. The roses are bright red with green edges and are placed so closely together that they seem to intertwine throughout the quilt.

Mrs. Moore is very happy, not only because this is such a beautiful gift, but because the members of her class wanted to do so much for her. Another quilt was just a top, made by Mrs. D.A. Carvener, 8172 Chalfonte avenue. Mrs. Carvener is 79 years old and has made every bit of this top from the Tumbling Blocks design, for the Carillon bazaar. Mrs. A.C. Wallis, her neighbor, brought it down to show us.

Another quilt was brought in by Mrs. Ynez Grenkowiz, but I will tell more about that next week.

The third quilt was one which was on the frames and worked on all of the afternoon. It belongs to Mrs. William Henry Blair, but she won't have to finish it all alone although she made the top without assistance.

The fourth quilt was one which Mrs. Edna Plank brought down because it was her 50th and she had just finished it. It was a gorgeous appliqued one in soft ecru, rose, and green.

One of the big surprises of the afternoon was when Mrs. Opal Clark walked in with the big box under her arm. Do you know what was in this box? It was the orange and green sweater she has just finished for her Fritzy. It is about one-year-old today, and Fritzy thinks it is so fine he only plans to wear it, when he wants to dress up.

Mrs. Clark told us a secret we did not know before. Today is Mrs. Fred Cowpers birthday. Mrs. Cowper lives at 1164 White street, Lincoln Park, so do drop a card even if it is a few days late. Just surprise her.

One of our visitors was Mrs. Mary Bowman who won a $25 prize at the last quilt show and we found out how she spent it. She bought some salad forks that she had wanted for a long, long time, a radio, for the kitchen, and a box of cigars for her husband. Her husband helped her a lot for he brought the quilt down to the News and called for it after the show, so she rewarded him with the cigars.

Mrs. Esther Deatheradge, 3161 Sixth street, dropped in just after every one had gone home yesterday and was so disappointed. She had a little visit with me and wanted to be remembered to everybody. We hope she will be able to attend the meeting regularly soon. Another visitor yesterday was Mrs. Charles Barnes, 8935 Astor street. She had wanted to come with one of her neighbors for a long time but today she was disappointed in meeting one of them; but she came all alone and liked it so well we hope to see every Friday.

Our Alaskan member, Mrs. Minnie Wyly of Ouzinkie, Alaska will have her birthday on Nov 20. Do drop her a card. It may nto reach her before Christmas, but she has been ill and it will cheer her considerably.

Mrs. Mary Deely who came to our club several times has moved to Caboll, Mo. The new members who signed yesterday were Mrs. Bessie Beers, 13002 Ward avenue, Mrs. Bessie Studevant, 13177 Schoolcraft avenue; Mrs. Ruth Brewer, 3732 Wabash avenue and Mrs. Hattie Ulrich, Route No. 1 New Haven, Michigan.

I am still keeping that pair of scissors with the green bow on them for the owner. She was at the meeting three weeks ago, but I missed her and have taken them over twice since in the hopes she would be there.

Yesterday someone left a paper bag with some quilt material in it and I also found a gray silk scarf trimmed with gray fringe.
