Twin Star Quilts Given to Pastor and His Wife

When the members of the Workmore Club of St. James Methodist Church, Harlowe avenue, Detroit, found out that not only their pastor, Reverend William MacClenthen was to have a 78th birthday but that his wife would celebrate the same number of years within a month of the date of his, they planned a real celebration.

This included the meeting of the Workmores and members of the Ladies Aid at the home of the pastor, 16767 Archdale avenue, for a social afternoon. And to top it all off, a pair of quilts was presented to these two celebrators. These quilts are in a large pattern known as the Friendship Star in a variety of colored prints, the center of each star having the autograph of one of the members of the congregation 44 names in all. The borders are orchid and all work on the quilts has been done by hand; and not only did those who worked on them enjoy making them but they also enjoyed thinking about what a surprise it would be to receive them and it certainly was.

Not only have these two happy people celebrated their 78th birthday but just recently they had a 56th wedding anniversary.

The presentation of quilt was made by Mrs. Donald MacDonald chairman of the Workmore Club assisted by Mrs. Bernard Beck president of the Ladies Aid Society. Mrs. Lillian Zegalia has written to tell us that our shut-in friend, Mrs. Victoria Allor, 1089 Lakeview Avenue, Detroit is very ill and she thought that perhaps some of the Quilt Club Corner members would like to send a card to her.

Mrs. Selma Costa, 24845 Tuscany avenue, Detroit, has sent a very pretty card to wish all of the Quilt Club members much happiness on Easter Sunday.
