Activities of Members Vary at Quilt Meetings
By Edith B. Crumb

All anyone who wants ideas on knitting, crocheting, tatting or quilt-making has to do is visit The Detroit News Quilt Club Corner meetings on Friday afternoon for every member is busy doing something very interesting.

Mrs. Pearl Rhoads is making a child's quilt. It is made from the center part of the Lenox Plate pattern. The blocks are about eight inches square.

Mrs. Katherine Mierau is making a quilt with a different gingham Scottie applied on each block. Mrs. Henry C. Reinhold was binding a quilt which she had just finished from samples of shirting.

Mrs. Maude S. Raymond is learning to tat, but still thinks crocheting is more fun. Mrs. Florence De Young, 1419 Vermont avenue, who joined yesterday, made several inches of crocheted edging with the help of Mrs. Emma Miller.

We missed Mrs. A. Klein, 5326 Bewick avenue, who has not been with us for several weeks because of a fall. Mrs. Rose Alexander sent greetings to everyone and is looking forward to the time when she can be with us again.

A crocheted rug kept Mrs. Wm. Kessler busy all afternoon. It was oblong and very attractive. The colors were hit and miss and she used a large wooden hook, being very careful to have all edges turned in so that there were no threads to ravel. This gave both sides a smooth finished look.

Mrs. Margaret Chenchick, 3730 Burns avenue, joined the Club yesterday. Mrs. Ida Manning and Mrs. Jessie Indish who had heard about the Club and wanted to know more about it came to visit. We hope that they like it well enough to come again and bring their sewing.

A letter from Mrs. C. Foye, 19179 Cardoni avenue, Detroit, says that though she is not listed as a member of our Quilt Club she is a steady reader of the Corner. She is unable to attend meetings but wonders if some of the members might have a suggestion for patterns which she could use to make a quilt of heavy wool pieces. She wants something besides the old Crazy Quilt pattern.

She would also like suggestions for recovering and quilting an old feather comforter. She says she does not know much about quilts but is an ardent fan and and is learning fast.

Mrs. Phillip Skuszinski, 19538 Waltham avenue, Detroit, would like to have patterns for the last three blocks of the Nosegay quilt. Is there anyone who would be generous enough to lend these to Mrs. Skuszinski? If so, just drop them in an envelope and mail them to her.

Quilt Show
Next Tuesday, February 14, is a big day for the Ladies' Bible Class of Henderson Church, Lilac and Puritan avenues, for they are to hold a quilt show and luncheon. This church may well be proud of its quilt shows for they are large and every quilt a beauty in itself.
