Novel Quilt Is Entered in Show
By Edith B. Crumb

About a year ago Mrs. Eva Schaub, 2667 Marlborough avenue, saw a picture of a quilt made by Mrs. Dora Bice and she immediately started one like it. This quilt was different from any others because it was quilted before it was put together.

That sounds like an impossibility but each block is made of a square folded into a triangle and filled with flannel, all edges turned in and overcast. This leaves no raw seams or edges to fray and when the triangles are joined, there the quilt is - all finished.

In the picture Mrs. Schaub is shown with her quilt which is ready to be entered in the quilt show.

There are very few blocks alike in this quilt and the figured materials alternate with the plain ones. The sides are finished with points, which makes this type of quilt more attractive than a straight edge.

So, here is another quilt for you to look for at the show - the pre-quilted quilt.

Mrs. Lydia Wilson, Box 464 Farmington, New Mexico, seems to be a very neighborly person in spite of the fact that she lives so far away. She writes us often and has so much correspondence that she has not even finished all of her Christmas thank-you letters - or had not when she last wrote. She said that she had 18 packages and 92 Christmas cards - but if it takes her until next Christmas to do it she will answer every card and letter. If she owes you a letter, don't get discouraged for you will certainly hear from her.

Mrs. Wilson wants a pattern for the Blue Bird quilt which is pieced out of plain blue and white. It is not an appliqued pattern but a conventional one of pieces.

She would also like to get the instructions for making a crocheted center piece which is solid crochet and has the scallops laced together on the outer edge. There is a tassel hanging from the center of the scallops. She also wants a pattern for the Rolling Star quilt. Perhaps someone will be able to send Mrs. Wilson one or more of the directions she wants. I know she will be very grateful.

Mrs. S. J. Wolfinger, 669 Cedar avenue, Sharon, Pa., has sent her name in for membership and is eager to exchange patches so that she will have a better varitey of colors and designs.

She has five children and does not have an opportunity to get out much so she makes quilt patches when she has a few spare moments at home. Do drop her a line and exchange some materials with her. She will be grateful for these and happy to hear from you.
