Beverly Gordon, PhD, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Environment, Textiles and Design at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has been studying textiles for more than 30 years-teaching, weaving, curating exhibits, and researching topics as varied as Victorian fancywork; Iroquois beadwork; American domestic textiles; Guatemalan weavings; and felt, felt making, and cloth finishing. She was President of the Textile Society of America, 1998-2000. She is currently working on a book entitled The Fiber of Our Lives: Why Textiles Matter. Previous books include The Saturated World: Aesthetic Meaning, Intimate Objects, Womens Lives, 1890-1940 (2006); Bazaars and Fair Ladies: The History of the American Fundraising Fair (1998); and Shaker Textile Arts (1980). She has long loved quilts and hopes to help increase the dialogue between quilt researchers and those who are passionate about other types of textiles. When AQSG added Uncoverings articles to the Quilt Index, they omitted all the illustrations, for lack of permissions. Although the articles found in the QI (1980-2010, 2012-2016) lack illustrations, they link to quilts, essays, special collections, and documentation projects across the Quilt Index, introducing them to a wider audience. The permission issues have since been resolved and in 2024, AQSG completed adding all the Uncoverings volumes from 1980-2023 to the Digital Commons@University of Nebraska-Lincoln. They are completely searchable and include all the illustrations. You can find, Uncoverings 2006, Volume 27, at this link, https://digitalcommons.unl.edu/aqsg-uncoverings/34/.
