Mother Goose Quilt Series-Pattern No. 18
Simple Simon

If Simple Simon thinks he is going to catch any fish in that pail, he is certainly mistaken, but a nursery quilt would not be complete without him, so here he is with his silly little hat right on top of his head.

This may be worked out in an etching stitch in red, blue, green, or any plain color; or the whole block may be made in applique.

Simple Simon may have bright blue appliqued trousers, red shirt, black shoes, yellow hair and brown hat. The pail may be etched in black and his eyes may be a big blue French knot.

This is also attractive in a combination of applique and solid embroidery. Using the applique colors as suggested, the stool may be solid embroidery in brown and his hatband may also be solid embroidery in red to match his shirt or in bright green, just to be simple, as he would surely be.

See general directions leaflet giving yardages and measurements of blocks, joining strips and borders of quilt.
