Nao Nomura is a doctoral student in the Department of Area Studies at the University of Tokyo, Japan. She holds a master's degree in textile history/ quilt studies and museum studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She served as collections manager at the International Quilt Study Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2004 to 2007. With Janneken Smucker, she co-authored "From Fibers to Fieldwork: A Multifaceted Approach to Re-examining Amish Quilts," in Uncoverings 2006. During 2010-2011 Nomura will research changes in the aesthetics and function of quilts within the Amish community since the latetwentieth century under a Fulbright grant for doctoral dissertation research and in affiliation with Temple University and the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies at Elizabethtown College.
