Blaire 0. Gagnon taught herself to quilt after her daughter was born and soon opened a quilt shop in Salem, Connecticut. After her family moved to Rhode Island, she returned to college and earned a master's degree in textiles, fashion merchandising, and design at the University of Rhode Island, completing her thesis on Egyptian appliques in 2002. She is now working on a doctorate in cultural anthropology at the University of Connecticut, focusing on cross-cultural impacts on textile development and marketing.
