Catherine A. Cerny, Ph.D., did her graduate work at the University of Minnesota. She is currently an assistant professor in apparel design at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. With research interest in women's aesthetics and cultural analysis, she has published several articles on contemporary quiltmaking. She oversaw the documentation of quilt and quiltmaker histories for the Rhode Island Quilt Documentation project and will author a chapter in the Rhode Island book.
