BACK TO DOCUMENTATION PROJECTS
Kent County, MD Quilt Documentation Project
Planning for Kent County Quilt Documentation Days began in January 2005, with representatives from the Olde Kent Quilters, Maryland Cooperative Extension and the Historical Society of Kent County, MD. The project set a cut-off date of 1950 and welcomed any quilt or quilt objects owned or made by Kent County residents. Funding support was supplied by the Kent County Arts Council, Stories of the Chesapeake Heritage Area, Olde Kent Quilters, and the Historical Society of Kent County. The Kent Documentation forms and logo were provided through in-kind support from the Maryland Extension Service and Olde Kent Quilters.
Six documentations were held, with 279 quilts and quilted objects documented. Dates ranged from 1850 to 1949, with the majority made between 1930 and 1949. An exhibit of fourteen quilts and a set of quilt blocks made by Kent County women, titled “More Than Just a Bedcovering,” was presented in three locations during 2009.
