Mountain Mist Quilts from the Museum of Texas Tech University

The Museum of Texas Tech University holds a significant collection of Mountain Mist quilts. The Mountain Mist batting company put patterns on their batting wrappers as a promotional tool beginning early in the 20th century. They printed quilt patterns that were fashionable at the time.

The original two quilts made from Mountain Mist quilt batting wrapper patterns have been joined by a significant collection of Mountain Mist quilts and ephemera collected over a period of time by quilt historian and appraiser, Marcia Kaylakie. Mrs. Kaylakie focused specifically on Mountain Mist quilts for her collection and always sought the best example of the patterns from the wrappers. The opportunity for research on the Mountain Mist quilts is extensive and as a University collection the Museum is pleased to be able to care for this collection of beautiful 20th century quilts.
