Alberta Quilt Discovery Project

The Alberta Quilt Discovery Project – Piecing together Alberta’s Story

The Alberta Quilt Study Society was founded in order to promote the understanding, appreciation and knowledge of quilt making and its heritage in Alberta and beyond.

The Alberta Quilt Discovery Project is one, if not the most, important means to accomplish this goal. Quilt Discovery Days have been held several times per year since the incorporation of the Society in 2013.  At these Discovery Days Alberta quilt owners have their quilts documented, carefully examined, photographed, and registered.
All data and photographs gathered during the Discovery Days will be housed by the Royal Alberta Museum Archives in Edmonton, Alberta.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Arizona Quilt Documentation Project, the Quilt Index and Royal Alberta Museum, with financial support from the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation and the Alberta Lottery Fund.  We appreciate the cooperation of heritage, quilt and community groups along with many museums in Southern and Central Alberta.

The quilts are obviously the focus of our work but with them comes the incredible stories that we are recording before they are lost.

The crazy quilt used for our logo is from the Doran Family Quilt – 1887.
