Dolly Madison Star Quilt Patterns

By Edith B. Crumb.

Star patterns have always been popular amoung quilt-makers and here is one which you will not only like to make but which is an especially fine design.

This pattern may be made in white and a print or plain color or in white with two other colors or prints.

No. 1 shows the completed block with the correct number of Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 assembled.

The required pieces are as follows:
No. 2 - 5 of colored material and 4 of white.
No. 3 - 28 of colored material and 20 of white.
No. 4 - 4 of white material.
No. 5 - 4 of white material.

In using three colors here is a suggestion for the layout: The nine-patch in the center may be composed of five red and four white pieces and blue may be used elsewhere where colored material is designated: or you may use this plan with other color combinations.

In making this three-color scheme you might even add more red by making the large triangles (No. 5) in this color to match the five pieces in the center nine-patch.

Every block may be piece and then joined, or if you prefer, you may have just alternate blocks pieced and joined with plain ones.
