Double Monkey Wrench Quilt Pattern
By Edith B. Crumb.
Here is an old-time quilt pattern that you will all enjoy making. It is made of 17 pieces and is generally known as the Double Monkey Wrench, although it is sometimes called the Churn Dash.
Picture No. 1 shows a completed block. Of No. 2 you will require four patches of white and four of figured material; of No. 3 you will require four of white and four of figured, while of No. 4 you will need but one patch. Each block, when finished, measures nine inches square and the dotted lines show seam allowances on the patches.
You may use the same print throughout or, if you have a scrap basket full of bits that you wish utilized, you will find that each block made of different print will be effective.
If you wish you may put the blocks together with strips running lengthwise and crosswise. These strips should be cut about two and one-half inches square so as to be two inches after the seams have been taken in them.
You will find that a quilt seven blocks wide and eight blocks long will be sufficiently large; and to make it you will require three yards of white material and 5 1/2 yards of figured.
If you prefer to set your blocks together with alternate white blocks, you will only require half as many of the colored patched ones and in that case the yardage is reveresed, requiring three of the printed material and 5 1/2 of the white.
