Bloodroot

Here is the Bloodroot, a very simple but effective flower, which will make the center motif for the fourth block of your Laurel Wreath quilt. Isn't it getting interesting? Remember this, the blocks you have had so far and the next two have been planned with an opening at the top of the wreath, since they are meant to be at the top of the panel. But you can obviate that difficulty later by adding stems, if you want to put a top block lower down in the panel.

Another thing for you to remember, the flower on this leaflet block looks effective on the picture with its white background and decided polka dots. The small insert petals stand out because of the black line that defines them in the drawing; but in actuality that flower would look very weak and insipid if it were put on the panel in white and white materials with polka dots in color. The background and petals would belnd so completely that you would not be able to see where one started and the other ended.

As a matter of fact a blue material, solid color for the small inserts, and for the remainder of the flower a rather vivid, but narrow striped material with blue and yellow, and a little coral in it would be effective.

This design is to be placed on a 10 1/2 x 12 1/2-inch square, the leaves are of the darker shade of green and the stem is brown.
