Needles for Defense
Members of the Detroit News Needles for Defense Club have lost no time in getting right down to work.

Last week hundreds of them called for knitting and sewing. So many, in fact, came in to get the first club project, those simply-made warm flannelette pajamas for convalescent soldiers, that by noon the shelves were bare. Already the returning's are rolling in.

Pajamas have started coming back, as well as the projects given out for war refugees and evacuees.

Not a dozen garments had been turned in before the Needles for Defense Editor made a very important discovery.

She learned that Detroit women are expert seamstresses.

The garments which were returned were practically, without exception beautifully made, neatly pressed and folded, so that each one had a truly professional look.

And those shorts for the young evacuees came in with such smartly pressed seams in the little trousers that they looked as if they had come right out of the stock of a clothing store.

Because of the holiday week no sewing or knitting will be given out this week.

But the hunt for new wool pieces to make warm lap robes for convalescents is going right on.

Incidentally, there is good news about which work will be announced tomorrow.

But now for the Honor Roll of those who have already been credited with their hours of work.
