Quilt Club Sister Call to Wish Gran Happiness

By Edith B. Crumb

When the members of the Grand River Branch of the Quilt Club Corner decided to give Gran a birthday party, Mrs. Dorothy Sheets generously offered to open her house at 22698 Law ave Dearborn, for it and even though we were given the address we thought we might have a little trouble finding the house when we went to Dearborn Thursday. Mrs. Sheets anticipated that too and what do you suppose she did? Why she put a block of double Wedding Ring over the doorbell and what good quilt maker could take that for anything but the right house.

We found Gran just about the youngest person at the gathering and she thinks that getting up at five o'clock every morning and cooking breakfast for seven has a lot to do with her being so gay and chipper. Now do you think that we ought to get up that early and cook big breakfasts beginning say tomorrow? Wonder if she will make us look as young as Gran when we are 84?

It was too bad that Gran's twin sister could not have been with us for they have not seen each other in years. Gran says that her sister is six feet tall and Gran is a little thing just a little over five feet.

Guess what everyone at the party talked about? You are right-quilts and Mrs. Sheets had so many gorgeous tops to show us. She prefers applique to piecework and the more intricate the design the more it pleases her.

You would have known almost everyone in the party for you have seen their names many times in the Corner and heard them over the air. First there is Marion Ridler who is famous for her quilt picnics at Belle Island; and once Mrs. Pipinger had a quilt club picture taken at her house and of course, you know all about the Quilt Club Corner Sister, Mrs. Galton and Mrs. Fisher.

Everyone was sorry that Mrs. Charles Voelker one of the most faithful members of the Grand River Quilt Club could not attend. I met Mrs. F Fobar on my way to the party and she had planned to attend by was disappointed at the last minute. However, she had a card addressed to Gran and intended to send it even if it would reach there late.

Tea was served and Mrs. Edna Planack Mrs. Peal Beaumont and Mrs. Bertha Sullivan poured.

Many, many more happy birthdays, Gran.

Patches to Exchange
Dear Miss Crumb: My mother and I are glad to know that we are members of your Quilt Club Corner. It is so much fun making quilts and seeing the quilts which others are making. We would be glad to exchange quilt patches with any of the members.

We are happy to have you and your mother as members of the Quilt Club Corner and hope that you enjoy belonging.

She Collects Patterns
Dear Miss Crumb: I have been visiting in Detroit and have been reading the Quilt Club Corner and enjoyed it so much. I have pieced several tops and also quilted quite a few. I have been collecting patterns for four years.

You must have a very fine collection of patterns, Mrs. Hinsmore. It is interesting hobby and I know that you must enjoy acquiring new ones. You must not forget us now that you have left Detroit for we are looking forward to hearing from you occasionally.

Request Was Answered
Dear Miss Crumb: Thank you so very much for your interest in obtaining the rest of the Horoscope quilt patterns. They were sent to me by Mrs. R.M. Harvey of Rochester, Mich. I am writing to her today. Again thanking you and with very best wishes for the Quilt Club corner, I close this little more.
Mrs. G.H. Simms
1347 Eddy Street, Chicago, Ill

It was very kind of Mrs. Simms to let us know that she was successful in receiving the patterns. I am happy to know that she did for she had her quilt started and quite a bit of it done and then found that we had discontinued the patterns, so it made me happy as well as Mrs. Simms to know that Mrs. Harvey had been generous enough to send them to her.

Write a Cheery Note
Dear Miss Crumb: Here I am again. It is quilt a while since I wrote, last December but I think of all of my Quilt Club Corner friends often and they were so nice to write to Mrs. Dennison and I want to tell you that she was so happy to hear from the Club members.

She is now in Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. I hear that she is doing very nicely and hope that she will receive some more letters now for she needs them more than ever.
