Faithful Quilters Meet, but Find It Too Hot to Sew

By Edith B. Crumb

The Quilt Club Corner should be renamed for the summer months the Chat Club Corner, for quilt-making was only talked about yesterday at the meeting.

Nothing keeps these faithful women from attending the Corner meeting; but there was nothing which could tempt them to take up their needles and sew a few patches together.

There was a great deal of talk about the quilts that had been made and that are to be made and the most fascinating piece of news was about Mrs. Kay Patterson, who is visiting an old house up north and spending most of her time rummaging through the attic.

She says there are chests of drawers, glassward, china and probably some charming old quilts. She must write and tell us all about the treasures that she finds.

Mrs. Richard Marx brought a new member, Mrs. Mary Jones, 3306 Howard street. Mrs. Jones says that she makes quilts and when it gets a little cooler will bring her patches to the meeting.

Mrs. Henry C. Reinhold and Gretchen surprised us by coming to the meeting. They have been traveling for the past two weeks, in Indiana and Illinois. We were happy to have them back with us.

Even Mrs. Eva Schaub, who usually sews from the minute she arrives at the meeting until the time she leaves, didn't take a single stitch.

Mrs. Nelliw Welke, in spite of the height of the thermometer, was crocheting an edge on a handkerchief and looked very industrious.

A few more of these high degree Fridays and then it will be cool and we'll be back to our quilt-making. Did you know that I am making the tops for two quilts? Both from the Single Irish Chain pattern in cherry red background print combined with plain white.

Mrs. Mae Lawson sent us a card from New York, where she is vacationing. She will be down to see us some Friday soon after she returns home.
