Quilters Work for Red Cross

By Edith B. Crumb

Yesterday we had two quilt tops shown to use and they were certainly interesting. The first one was brand new, pieced from a wheel pattern by Mrs. Ida Roushkoulp, and the second was pieced over 75 years ago by an aunt of Mrs. Cora Dempsey, who brought the top.

This was made in South Canaan, Pennsylvania and had in it many interesting old prints, a yellow green predominating. The design was similar to the Old Album or Friendship Quilt. Now Mrs. Dempsey will have the top quilted and adds this treasure to her linen closet.

Two new members whose names were given yesterday by Mrs. Paula Hein were Mrs. Martha Wilke 3256 Lothrop avenue and Mrs. Clara Cychion 6882 Brown Street, Centerline, Mich.

Mrs. Eva Schaub and Mrs. Henry C Reinhold have decided that the husbands of those quilters who have attended the summer picnics at Belle Isle are due for an outing so they are all invited to a wiener roast next Saturday October 12.

The place of the meeting will be the shelter near the Schiller monument and you should plan to arrive as soon after five o'clock as possible. The husband's had better plan to go, because the food will be top notch and there will be lots of it. Those quilters surely know how cook.

Mrs. H. Wick surprised us by coming to Corner meeting yesterday for the first time since Christmas. She had been ill for a longtime and this is er first trip down. We were very happy to see her and hope that she will be able to come often.

Many Cornerites are working for the Red Cross. Gabrielle Baecheroot goes to headquarters at East Jefferson and Dubois avenues once a week and sews from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mrs. Arthur Fisher, says that she has made 17 sweaters and Mrs. Emmons Galton, the other sister had made nine or 10. That record is certainly one of which to be proud.

Mrs. Fisher started her first one on the day that she called for her quilts at the Armory after the show. She stopped at Red Cross Headquarters and received her first batch then and has been busy ever since. Mrs. Galton is working for the Algonac unit.
